Changemakers Series: What Do We Need to Understand? A Changemakers Conversation about Leadership and Decision-Making in Complex Systems

Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 4:00 PM until 5:00 PMPacific Daylight Time UTC -07:00

Join Dr. Jessica K. Parker and Master’s in Leadership students Danny Ramirez and Will Loeng for a conversation about what it actually takes to lead and make decisions in complex, real-world situations. Instead of rushing to solutions, Danny and Will have been using the Cynefin framework to slow down and ask a different kind of question: What do we need to understand before doing anything?

In this Changemakers webinar, you’ll be introduced to the Cynefin framework (Snowden, D.J., & Boone, M. E., 2007) and hear how these students applied it in their work with a youth sports nonprofit. Together, they will share how stepping back from simple cause-and-effect thinking helped them better understand the interconnected challenges of finances, organizational capacity, identity, voice, and defining success in a complex regional landscape. They will also speak candidly about what worked, what didn’t, and what they’re still figuring out. An open Q&A will follow. If you’ve ever felt pressure to act before you fully understand the problem, this conversation is for you. Because in complex systems, how you think matters more than how fast you act.
